According to the National Coffee Association, the average American drinks more than three cups of coffee a day, contributing to a $40 billion industry in the United States alone. Espresso is a type of coffee made by forcing a small amount of nearly boiling water under pressure, through finely ground coffee beans.

Nobody knows the origin of the National Espresso Day which takes place every November 23rd, but caffeine lovers will certainly be visiting Miami Beach’s coffee shops to sip, sit and celebrate.

The Carlton Room Café at The Betsy is partnering with the popular local roaster Panther Coffee for a panel discussion and cupping demonstration. Javaphiles, coffee enthusiasts and coffee professionals interested in learning more about Panther Coffee, will sample this buzzy beverage during Conversations Over Coffee.

Speakers include Panther’s Founder Leticia Pollock and Head Roaster Mike Van Tuyl who will speak about their experiences in the coffee industry. Following the chat, there will be a cupping of their coffees hosted by Barista Chris Emile where attendees can partake in a complimentary shot of espresso.

Managing Director of The Betsy-South Beach, Zach Plutzik said that “The mission of the panel and all of the salons and community conversations that The Betsy hosts is to build community between our venues and patrons. In this case, our guest speakers have fascinating information about something we all love, COFFEE.”

Adding, “Their journey to find the world’s best coffee and to empower growers worldwide is something our Betsy team deeply admires, and it’s one of the reasons we wanted to work so closely with Panther Coffee.”

As for surprises during the event, Leticia Pollock, Co-founder of Panther Coffee shared, “We will taste our newest Espresso Blend “1985”. This blend cannot be found at any of the Panther Coffee locations or The Betsy Hotel yet. Guests at this event will have the opportunity to be some of the first to try its sweetness and round, creamy mouth feel.”

Conversations Over Coffee is on Saturday, November 23th at 1433 Collins Avenue from 9AM until 10AM, admission is free and open to the public.
