MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA – The intimate cabaret-style “Cocktails and Cabaret” will be at the historic Fillmore Theater in Miami Beach on Friday, July 19th with doors opening at 8PM. The show is produced by Clubesque, and is the brainchild of Sunni Stephens, who launched the production five years ago in Atlanta.
Cocktails and Cabaret is an intimate burlesque style music revue reminiscent of Old Hollywood. With cocktail lounges seating specially designed to enhance the experience, this 90-minute burlesque show plus after-party features a combination of well-known stylized and re-imagined modern standards, jazz, contemporary, pop, R&B, and other global music.
Sunni Stephens explains the show’s relationship with Miami. “We premiered the show on December 8th , Art Basel Weekend and have been doing them monthly since. So we have 5 shows under out belt (we took off March and June). I have booked the show out through December (Art Basel 2019) as we have seen a steady climb in attendance and interest in the Miami community.”
The show on July 19th will include a variety of songs ranging from the Golden Age of Hollywood to the chart topping hits of today, including such hits as “Fever,” “Whatever Lola Wants,” “Diamonds Are Forever,” “Believe,” “Uptown Funk,” a cocktail medley, a tribute to the Swing and Jazz era and many more.
In regard to burlesque, which is defined as ‘theatrical entertainment of a broadly humorous often earthy character consisting of short turns, comic skits, and sometimes striptease acts’ by Webster’s dictionary, Stephens shares her take. “There has been a gross misrepresentation of what these entertainment genres mean and stand for.”
“My show is a variety show that intermixes burlesque, drag, singing, dancing, live music, and cirque; the definition of a ‘cabaret’… and while my burlesque queens do perform a ‘striptease’ these women are a true inspiration and celebration of the Modern Day Woman.”
“Clubesque tells the story of the beauty, personality, and soul of today’s woman. […] We don’t want to perform for you, we want to perform to you! Our goal is for you to leave a little better than you came.”
Stephens shared that this next show has a new element of a ‘cocktail hour’, to greet guests that show up on time and set the mood. She explained, “I wanted the audience to feel like they were in a ‘juke joint’ with the party starting as soon as they enter the doors.”
Adding, “So once you walk in, you are ready to unwind and get the party started. Once they have warmed you up, the big show begins at 9PM.”
