Veterans Day is a national holiday honoring the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service of the United States Armed Forces. This year’s parade is presented by the Miami International Auto Show, which is at the Miami Beach Convention Center until November 10th.

The parade starts promptly at 11:11 AM, and the line-up kicks off with a roaring military fly-over, followed by the parade of floats, veteran marching bands, military personnel and assets, all culminating with a high-flying all veterans parachute team that will descend from 5,000 feet and land in Lummus Park for a wreath laying ceremony and picnic.

Sam Moore, who was born in Overtown and now lives in Coral Gables, is the singer behind Sam & Dave hits like “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin’” and “When Something Is Wrong With My Baby” will lead the seventeen-member a capella choir from Miami Arts Studio.

“It is hard to explain what it means to me to be asked to be the grand marshal of the Miami Beach Veterans Day parade honoring the men and women who have given their lives, their service, to us all so we can be free,” Moore told the Miami Herald.

In honor of our nation’s heroes, the City invites everyone to stop by the Operation Gratitude tent to write letters of gratitude and encouragement for our deployed service members, new recruits, and first responders; as well as veterans who have fought for our nation’s freedom. Operation Gratitude will also be donating more than 200 care packages to be handed out during the event to our honored veterans.

Co-sponsors include Coca-Cola, T-Mobile and Easy 93.1. Supporting sponsors include: FastCare Urgent Care, Atlantic Broadband, MB Suncare, South Beach Group and KIND Snacks.

The event is free, and those who need parking, there is a public parking garage available at 7th Street and Collins Avenue ($1/hr) or metered street parking along Collins Avenue.
