MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA – The “Milonga Under the Stars” event with True Tango will transform the Normandy Fountain with a taste of Argentina from 7PM – 10PM tonight, Thursday, May 23rd.
Residents and visitors are invited to free tango classes, and enjoy local artisan vendors, kids’ activities and more while tasting traditional dishes from some of the city’s favorite Argentinian spots.
The event is hosted by Prism Creative Group and City of Miami Beach Government, and organizers invite all to “experience a Tango class and performance, al fresco, by True Tango featuring traditional Argentinian cultural sounds.”
There will also be Tango-inspired cuisine and classic dishes on offer, including fire-grilled churrasco from Las Vacas Gordas, choripan, empanadas by Fufi Restaurant, and of course, regional libations.
For those not in the know, a ‘Milonga’ is an event where Argentine tango is danced to the sounds of mainly tango, vals and milonga music. Traditionally milongas are held on a weekly basis, and often begin with dancing classes and sometimes demonstration dances to warm up the crowd.
The format is usually three to five songs of a kind are played in a row (called tanda) followed by a short musical break (called cortina) to clear the dance floor and give everyone a chance to switch up partners, as appropriate.
Other activities will be exhibitions by The Biscayne Poet, ABBOTT FLORIST MIAMI BEACH, psychic, and live sketching by @elsketchero of Urban Sketchers Miami.
