MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA – The Miami New Drama organization continues its mission to tell ‘extraordinary stories for an extraordinary city’, by debuting its 2019-2020 with the acclaimed, Pulitzer-prize winning novel, “The Bridge of San Rey”. Bridges will run from October 24th until November 17th at the Colony Theater at 1040 Lincoln Road.
The Bridge of San Luis Rey was written by award-winner writer, Thornton Wilder, and has been defined by Time Magazine as “one of the best novels of the 20th century.” The novel narrates the tale of five travelers in colonial Peru whose lives and destinies are intersected in the most ‘epic and unexpected ways’.
Michel Hausmann, Artistic Director of Miami New Drama, shared why this novel was chosen to open the season, “The Bridge of San Luis Rey is the perfect way to open this eclectic season. It’s a beautiful, polished, moving show that highlights the power of theatrical storytelling.”
He continued, “It’s also a great honor for us that a world-class artist of international fame like David Greenspan decided to continue to develop his new work with us.” David Greenspan is a six-time Obie award winner, who stars in the play and adapted the novel to a play.
In addition to the Bridges of San Luis Rey, there are two upcoming shows for the 2019-2020 season. “The Cubans,” the first play by Cuban-American author, Michael Leon, will have its world premiere on January 23rd, and will show until February 16th.
“A Wonderful World,” a musical about jazz icon, Louis Armstrong, will also have its world premiere on March 5th, and will run until April 5th. Lastly, comedic drama about an American Basketball coach who travels with his team to Beijing in 1989, “The Great Leap,” will show from April 23rd until May 17th.
