MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA – National Rum Day is coming on Friday, August 16th, and to celebrate it properly the third annual National Rum Day Fest will take place that day at the poolside garden of The Confidante Miami Beach at 4041 Collins Avenue from 5PM to 9PM.
Whether one is familiar with this holiday, and an avid rum drinker or not, the festival promises an evening of tropical, summer fun in a beautiful outdoors space in Miami Beach.
The event will give guests a chance to enjoy themselves with rum cocktails made by renowned mixologists using brands like Ron Zacapa, Santa Teresa, Havana Club, La Hechicera, and Malibu, just to name a few.
In addition, there will be live music, cigar rolling and cigars (on a first come first serve basis), games, and food available for purchase from The Grill.
Sarah Sebastian founded the festival, and explained why how it was started. “The inspiration of starting the festival is to create an immersive RUM oasis for South Florida to elevate the category, in general,” she said. “Rum should be fun and a festival to celebrate that was missing!”
Describing the festival format on August 16th, Sebastian adds, “Our festival doesn’t have stuffy tasting rooms with banquet tables. Each brand showcase’s its story and essence through an experience.”
“Our event team and collaborators come from the industry and we wanted to create a festival that is an experience, where brands can show their personality but also have a premium showcase for both trade and consumers.”
As a final note, she added that it was difficult to pick a favorite cocktail, “we have so many brands showcasing the mix-ability and creativity of a rum cocktail beyond a rum and coke. My personal favorite is a Hemingway Daiquiri!”
Followed by vodka and all the whiskeys combined, rum is the third most popular spirit in the United States. Rum is a distilled clear alcoholic beverage which is a byproduct of molasses production or made directly from sugar cane juice. After the fermentation and distillation process, most rum is aged in wooden oak barrels.
National Rum Day is observed annually on August 16th. For the Miami Beach National Rum Day Fest, tickets are $35 – $45 for regular admission, which covers the entrance from 6PM and a complimentary tasting. VIP admission is available for $55, which allows entrance at 5PM, plus a gift bag.
